Mental Health Treatment During the COVID-19 Pandemic

It’s natural to feel anxious, scared, even depressed and worse during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a very difficult time for so many of us. We’re here for you at the Trauma and Beyond Center (R). We’re now offering teletherapy, so that you can meet with your therapist from the comfort and safety of your own home. If you’ve been here before or if you’ve never been here before, we offer several kinds of mental health treatment options.  In addition to our therapy, there are some tips that you can follow to help to keep yourself from falling into a spiral of negative thoughts.

Do What You Can to Not Obsess Over Pandemic News

Obviously, you want to be informed about what’s going on. However, constantly checking news websites, over and over again for something new, isn’t good for your mental or emotional health. Over-researching can be just as big a problem (if not more so) than being uninformed. If at all possible, you want to limit the amount of time each day that you spend going over the news of the pandemic, the virus, and all of it. Beyond that, you want to be careful about where you get your news and information from. The CDC, for example, is a great place to start.

Try to Keep to Your Routine and Maybe Start a New Activity

It may seem like the two ideas expressed in this heading are contradictory, but they aren’t. So much in our lives has been disrupted due to the virus, but it can help quite a bit to stick to as much of your routine as possible. If you can get up and go to sleep around the same time you used to while eating meals at similar times and so forth, that can go a long way towards helping your mental and emotional health. By that same token, many people have found that developing a new activity during this time can help too. As many of us have more free time, you might want to take up exercising a bit more, going for a walk at the same time every day, or something similar. Journaling, getting in touch with folks you haven’t talked to in a while – all of this can help.
