At Trauma and Beyond Psychological Center, ® we specialize in individual outpatient psychotherapy that is trauma informed. We work with individuals seeking treatment for a variety of psychological conditions, and are especially equipped to help heal the trauma underlying most psychological disorders.
Our Los Angeles Outpatient Psychotherapy is a great option for individuals who may not need the intensity of a PHP or IOP program, yet still desire the support of our expert clinicians.
What is Outpatient Therapy?
Individual therapy can be the starting point for beginning your trauma therapy or it can be the step-down after completing PHP/IOP programming. Individual therapy can be tailored to your specific needs and challenges.
From our outpatient location in Sherman Oaks, we have the ability to offer various types and numbers of sessions. For example, clients may attend anywhere from once a week for individual therapy to multiple times a week.
All of our sessions and groups of outpatient therapy in Los Angeles CA are additionally offered virtually through a telehealth platform, and you are welcome to join us from the comfort of your home.
Individual Therapy
Something that sets us apart from other treatment providers is that all clients receive daily individual therapy, no matter the level of care they are receiving.
In individual therapy, clients have an opportunity to have a personalized conversation with the therapist and achieve a deeper level of processing according to the specific challenges they face. In this safe environment, exploring the root causes of trauma can help clients realize that many of their symptoms are caused by protective adaptive responses to trauma.
Our Approach to Treatment
What makes us different is our commitment to the trauma-informed perspective. From the way that we think about and treat all psychological disorders, to the way that we interact with our clients, we consider the impact of trauma.
We understand that for many people there are traumatic experiences deeply rooted in our development. From our attachment to our primary caregivers to the experiences we had in early childhood, to the interactions we’ve had in the world, the trauma we experience can inform our worldview.
We care deeply about the relationship that forms between therapist and client, and recognize this space as the foundation where healing and new ways of understanding the world can take root. With great intentionality, our clinicians weave together treatment of both left and right-brain, prefrontal cortex and limbic system, thinking and experiencing, working bottom-up and top-down.
Top-down approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, target the prefrontal cortex (the part of the brain that is responsible for reasoning and logic). These approaches are more cognitively oriented, and necessary for problem solving and decision making.
Bottom-up approaches such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy or Somatic Experiencing, focus on the role of the body in healing. Here, our psychodrama therapy in Los Angeles targets the body and the limbic system (the feeling center of the brain) and regulate and adjust the body’s visceral responses associated with complex trauma.
