Dr. Katya Techentin is a licensed clinical psychologist and trauma specialist with a private practice in the West Los Angeles area. She has extensive experience working with patients from psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspectives. She specializes in developmental, complex and medical trauma, PTSD and traumatic illnesses, as well as substance abuse, eating disorders, sex addiction and self-harming behaviors. For over 10 years Dr. Techentin has worked in several residential facilities, treating severe mental illnesses with co-occurring substance use disorders. Being bi-cultural and bi-lingual, she has a wealth of experience working with Russian populations, helping them process trauma in their native language.

While studying at the Moscow Medical Academy in Russia, Dr. Techentin completed two years of advanced training in the field of Death, Dying and Bereavement at the Moscow Cancer Institute. Upon receiving her Doctorate in Los Angeles, Dr. Techentin began practicing many evidence-based modalities and currently utilizes CBT, DBT, Attachment-Based EMDR and trauma-informed techniques in her practice. Using a combination of psychodynamic therapy, somatic reprocessing, EMDR (AF-EMDR), and mindfulness, Dr. Techentin helps her clients to develop insight into their psychological trauma and to gain skills that support healthy functioning so that they could reclaim their personal power and move on with their lives.
