Trauma and Mental Health IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program)

Trauma and Beyond Psychological Center ® provides a uniquely powerful treatment experience to those struggling with mental health disorders and trauma who are seeking intensive care.

As a perfect middle ground between higher levels of care and traditional outpatient therapy, our Intensive Outpatient Program serves the needs of clients in person at our Los Angeles location, and statewide through our virtual offerings.

“When we deny the story it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a braver ending.” – Brene Brown

What is Intensive Outpatient (IOP)?

Our Intensive Outpatient program allows clients to live at home, and yet participate in a more intensive treatment experience than traditional outpatient services provide.

Potential clients will be provided a psychological assessment, which will help to determine the best level of treatment, and support creation of a treatment plan. According to their needs, clients will participate in 3-5 days of IOP, for 3 or more hours per day. During that time, clients with us at our physical location in Los Angeles, and those joining us online will participate in a combination of individual, group and family therapy as determined by their treatment plan. Cliens will receive a combination of individual and group therapy daily. We have found this combination to be highly effective.

Our services are available virtually as well as in person, so that you can receive the benefits of our holistic and trauma-informed approach to treatment from the comfort of your own home.

The benefit of Intensive Outpatient treatment is that you are able to continue to keep up with your responsibilities at work, home, or school while still devoting much-needed attention to the difficulties that you face. Our program is highly customizable and able to be completely individualized to your needs.

Our Approach to Treatment

Trauma and Beyond ® was born out of a realization that at the core of many of the issues that our clients face, there is underlying trauma. We believe that these traumatic experiences can be deeply rooted in our development, as they shape the way that we see and experience the world.

Many of the problems that we treat here at Trauma and Beyond ® are actually symptoms of trauma and our attempts to adapt and respond to it. Whether it is addiction, anxiety, depression, or you have experienced a traumatic event later on in life, the root of these concerns is a dysfunctional relationship with your emotions, and ineffective way of storing it in our bodies.

Working from a trauma-informed perspective means that we see symptoms through a trauma lens and take great care to create an environment that is a safe container that encourages vulnerability. Our expert team of trauma informed therapists will provide integrative treatment that will address each part of you.

Our environment is one built on community support, where we deeply respect one another and the healing that is taking place in each of us. Clients feel connected to one another, and share in the triumphs and challenges that are ever-present in the healing process. In this type of environment, you can receive support from the treatment team and the other group members.

Our clinicians have each sought out advanced training in providing trauma-informed care, and are highly qualified to do the work they do. We employ specialists in treatment modalities that speak both to the creative and intuitive (right brain) as well as the logic and reason (left brain) parts of us.

Our treatment is built on multiple avenues of healing, through both mind and body in what are called “top-down” and “bottom-up” approaches.

Our goal is to lead our clients into a place of safety in their minds and bodies, where clients can experience more fulfilling relationships and have a greater connection to what brings them joy.

IOP Program Structure

Our Intensive Outpatient program in Los Angeles may be appropriate for clients who have graduated from higher levels of care, such as residential or partial hospitalization, or as the next step for individuals who did not experience the changes they were looking for in individual therapy alone.

This level of care is best suited for clients who do not require intense medical care or the supervision that PHP or residential treatment provides. If needed, we can provide referrals to transitional or sober living to those from out of town who want to participate in our in-person sessions in Sherman Oaks, California, or for those who require extra support.

As the perfect middle ground between traditional outpatient and PHP or Residential, the IOP level of treatment is 3 or more hours per day for 3 to 5 days per week. This more intensive level of treatment will be individualized to address your needs, and includes both individual and group sessions to provide clients a more holistic and contained environment.

Before admission to our program, all clients will receive an assessment and evaluation to develop an individualized treatment plan and establish next steps moving forward. Clients will meet with a primary therapist and specialists in treatment modalities that are determined to be a best fit.

These may include EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Art Therapy, TRM, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Affect Regulation, and Trauma Sensitive Yoga among other modalities.
